At the heart of the ORIS Color Tuner PLUS! workflow is ORIS Hotfolder Manager, CGS’ powerful workflow automation environment. A basic version is already included with ORIS Color Tuner. To upgrade to any of the PLUS! workflows, you simply add a module. The enhanced functionality will make your existing design or production system more efficient and profitable. This includes most PostScript and PDF RIPs, Computer-to-Plate (CTP) systems, digital presses and other major capital investments.

This workflow uses ORIS Color Tuner’s powerful color technology to create not only contract quality proofs but also high-resolution production files, for output on any CTP device or digital press. This provides precise color accuracy for any job, no matter what device or press condition is involved – or even if multiple devices and press conditions are used. Color management is applied to continuous tone and linework data, for complete color output control. If your CTP system or digital press does not have adequate color management (or if it lacks color management at all!), then ORIS Press Matcher is the answer. Here are some typical applications:

Digital Press Workflow. Over the last 10 years, digital presses and advanced digital color copiers have revolutionized graphic arts production for shorter-run jobs, variable data printing and other mission-critical tasks. However, many of these systems do not have robust color management, and none of them have the same color management approach. With ORIS Press Matcher, you can print 100,000 copies of a job on your offset press and, months later, print 1,000 more on your digital press – without sacrificing color quality or consistency! ORIS provides the color match, no matter which press condition you choose.

Multi-Site Print Workflow. In today’s printing environment, multiple plants with different presses, often in different countries, are becoming the norm. With this trend, however, comes increasing difficulty in maintaining color consistency for your customers. ORIS Press Matcher resolves this problem. Every press in every location can be characterized in Press Matcher, allowing you to send digital files that are automatically converted to the right color space. Along with the high-resolution files, remote hard copy proofs can also be produced at any location, ensuring maximum accuracy and efficiency.

“Stop the Press” Print Workflow. Even if you have only a single location, having multiple presses often poses a color management dilemma. With ORIS Press Matcher, however, you can maintain color accuracy even if you must move a job from one press to another – even in the middle of a run! ORIS automatically generates high-resolution files that are color “tuned” to each press.

Publishing “RIP and Ship” Workflow. Magazine and catalog publishers often use different printers, with widely varied press conditions, to efficiently produce and distribute their products. Unfortunately, this often means inconsistent color quality. ORIS Press Matcher lets the publisher create a single “master” file, and then automatically generate and send color-correct files to each printing plant. Because ORIS is a complete workflow system, this process also includes automatic FTP transfer, easy integration with other file transfer and job ticketing systems, and email notifications. Whether the piece is printed by offset or gravure (or both!), ORIS Press Matcher ensures that the color will be consistent, and of the highest quality – automatically.

Print Advertising Workflow. Advertisers and their agencies face color consistency problems similar to those of publishers, but with even less control over press conditions! With ORIS Press Matcher, advertisers can also work with a single “master” file, and automatically create production files that are color “tuned” to any press condition, including gravure, offset, flexography, and even newsprint. As a result, color quality and consistency can be maximized across any number of press conditions, without tedious and expensive manual file editing.

The cost of ink, and overall press efficiency, are critical aspects of any printing business. ORIS Ink Saver uses Color Tuner’s GCR/UCR capabililties to automatically reduce CMY ink usage and total ink coverage. This workflow is ideal for larger print operations with a high volume of process ink usage. By reducing ink usage, ORIS Ink Saver not only lowers costs; it also can improve drying and run performance, allowing faster press speeds and greater flexibility in choice of stocks – without sacrificing color quality! Unlike other systems, ORIS Ink Saver is not limited to applying GCR/UCR to image data only. Both linework and continuous tone data are controlled, automatically, providing your presses with high-resolution files adjusted for optimum ink usage and performance.

The complexity of digital file formats is a major source of inefficiency for printers, service providers and print buyers. Both digital presses and CTP systems use a confusing array of PostScript and PDF RIPs, which do not always handle every format. Some systems prefer one file format over another, and older, outdated RIPs can create havoc for those who simply want their job printed! For all of these issues, ORIS Normalizer is the answer. Whether used in connection with Press Matcher or Ink Saver, or as a standalone process, Normalizer automates the file conversion process, saving on operational costs and greatly reducing output errors and related billing disputes.

ORIS Normalizer uses network-shared hotfolders to process digital files, in all major prepress formats. Color management may be applied, using Press Matcher or Ink Saver, and new files are generated in the desired format and automatically sent to the desired printing facility. Both composite and separated file output is supported. Normalizer can create industry-standard formats, such as DCS, PDF/X and TIFF/IT, as well as proprietary Scitex formats. Older RIPs are also supported, with ORIS’ ability to create flat PostScript and PDF. Automatic preflight is included, as well as automatic FTP, and easy integration with third-party file transfer and job ticketing systems.
