A New Home for Surface Excellence in Hainburg

On February 19th, we officially opened our doors for a very special occasion: the Open House for the METIS PM3D Hawk.

Since the beginning of the year, the new flagship among METIS surface scanners has been installed at our premises in Hainburg. To give this exceptional system the environment it deserves, we renovated part of our building and created a dedicated showroom space on the ground floor—a true home for the scanner.

Not an easy task in a building that once housed a cigar factory. But now, everything is ready. The walls have been freshly painted, new flooring has been laid, and along the walls and across the tables, a fascinating collection of objects with unique surfaces awaits visitors: wooden planks, elaborately crafted entrance doors, natural stones, oil paintings, and many other rare and remarkable materials.

It was high time to open the doors and present our showroom to the world.

A Clear Commitment to the Decor Market

When we decided in 2024 to take on the distribution of surface scanners from Metis Systems, our focus was entirely on the decor market. Therefore, it was only natural that our first Open House would be dedicated to specialists in decor development.

We were delighted to welcome the “who’s who” of German-speaking decor development to Hainburg. By limiting participation to just 20 attendees, we created a relaxed and open atmosphere that encouraged lively interaction — both with the speakers and among the guests.

Our agenda for the day was straightforward, yet highly engaging for everyone involved.

Color Management Meets Surface Digitization

The day began with a warm and concise welcome from our CEO, Bernd Rückert, who also took the opportunity to position the PM3D Hawk within our portfolio.

After all, CGS ORIS is, first and foremost, a software development company specializing in color management — a topic that has always been of great importance in decor development. The integration of high-end surface scanning technology is therefore a logical and powerful extension of our expertise.

Live Demonstration: The PM3D Hawk in Action

The heart of the Open House was, of course, the live presentation of the PM3D Hawk by Massimo Colagrande from Metis.

With the scanner in full view, participants were able to follow every step of the scanning process. On a large monitor, all software settings were displayed live, allowing visitors to track adjustments in real time and ask questions directly during the demonstration.

The presentation impressively showcased the scanner’s capabilities in capturing surface texture, depth, gloss, and color with outstanding precision. It is exactly what decor development demands today.

Innovation Highlight: AI-Powered Decor Creation

The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of MIMIC, introduced by Matti von Kannen and Anastasia Folak from Saueressig.

This innovative AI tool for generating new decor designs truly amazed the audience. MIMIK demonstrated how artificial intelligence can create entirely new decor concepts based on high-quality training data.

And this is where the connection became clear: AI systems require premium, highly accurate scans for training. The importance of high-end surface scanners like the PM3D Hawk was therefore evident to everyone in the room.

Thank You

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our colleagues from Metis and Saueressig, as well as all participants, for contributing to such a successful and inspiring event.

The Open House marked not only the official presentation of the PM3D Hawk in Hainburg, but also the beginning of a new chapter in high-precision surface digitization for the decor industry.

We look forward to many more inspiring conversations in our new showroom.
